About VAT / GST / Sales Tax Calculator

The OmniTools360 VAT Calculator adds VAT, GST, or sales tax to a net price, or removes it from a gross price that already includes tax. It shows the net amount, the tax amount, and the gross amount, with quick rate presets for countries such as the UK, Germany, France, India, the UAE, Australia, Canada, Singapore, and South Africa. It is free and runs in your browser.

How does the VAT / GST / Sales Tax Calculator work?

In Add Tax mode, the tool multiplies the net amount by the tax rate to find the tax, then adds it to get the gross price. In Remove Tax mode, it divides the gross price by one plus the rate to find the net price, then subtracts that from the gross to get the tax included. Amounts are shown in the currency you pick.

Explanation

Add tax: Tax = Net × Rate / 100, Gross = Net × (1 + Rate / 100). Remove tax: Net = Gross / (1 + Rate / 100), Tax = Gross − Net. Note that removing 20% VAT is not the same as taking 20% off: the tax inside a 20% VAT-inclusive price is Gross / 6, or about 16.67% of the gross.

VAT / GST / Sales Tax Calculator examples

Add 20% UK VAT to £100 net
VAT = 100 × 0.20 = £20. Gross = £120.
Remove 20% VAT from £120 gross
Net = 120 / 1.20 = £100. VAT = £20 (not £24, which is a common mistake).
Add 18% India GST to ₹2,500
GST = ₹450. Gross = ₹2,950. Removing 15% VAT from 1,150 gives a net of 1,000 and tax of 150.

Frequently Asked Questions about VAT / GST / Sales Tax Calculator

How do I calculate VAT on a price?

Multiply the net price by the VAT rate and add the result to the price. For example, 20% VAT on 100 is 20, so the gross price is 120. Select Add Tax, enter the net amount and rate, and the calculator shows the tax and the total. The same method works for GST and sales tax.

How do I remove VAT from a price that includes it?

Divide the gross price by one plus the rate. For a 20% rate, divide by 1.20, so 120 becomes a net price of 100 and the VAT is 20. Do not simply subtract 20% of the gross, which would give 96 and understate the net. Choose Remove Tax and the calculator does this correctly.

What are the current VAT and GST rates by country?

The presets use commonly published standard rates, such as UK 20%, Germany 19%, France 20%, UAE 5%, Australia 10%, Canada GST 5%, Singapore 9%, and South Africa 15%. Rates change and many countries apply reduced rates to some goods, so always confirm the rate with your country's official tax authority before invoicing.

Can I use this as a GST calculator for India?

Yes. Click an India GST preset or type any rate, then add GST to a base price or remove it from an inclusive price. For intra-state supplies, the GST amount is usually split equally into CGST and SGST. India revised its GST slabs in 2025, so check the official GST portal for the rate on your item.

Does this work for US sales tax?

Yes. Enter your combined state and local sales tax rate, such as 8.875%, and use Add Tax to get the price at checkout. US sales tax varies by state, county, and city and is normally added at the till, so check your local tax authority for the exact rate. All calculations stay in your browser.
